Hair Transplant

Surgery is just another method of reversing hair loss and baldness, although it may be considered an extreme measure. The surgical methods used include hair transplantation, in which pieces of skin with hair are implanted onto the scalp's bald areas.

Today’s hair-transplant surgery has come a long way from the plugs of the 80s. The result is much more natural looking; the recovery time is only about a week. There’s

minimal pain while you’re healing and complications are rare.

Another method is scalp reduction, in which pieces of skin without hair are excised, and the leftover skin is pulled together and stitched. Hair transplants generally cause scarring, sometimes major scarring, which may be especially visible if hair loss continues over the rest of the scalp.

Hair restoration surgery can also be performed using a micro-surgery method such as the Choi implanter method. This procedure is carried out by taking pieces of skin from what's called a donor patch (harvesting follicles from the back of the head), then replanting those harvested follicles into bald areas. The benefit of this kind of procedure is that the transplanted grafts can look very natural.

In other words, hair transplants consist of removal of tiny plugs of hair from areas where the hair is continuing to grow and placing them in areas that are balding.

This can cause minor scarring in the donor areas and carries a modest risk for skin infection. The procedure usually requires multiple transplantation sessions and may be expensive. Results, however, are often excellent and permanent.

Hair Transplants can cost $10,000 and up.
